LaRS – Language Repository of Switzerland

LaRS Services

Archiving and publishing

For researchers, the publication of research data with LaRS is free of charge.
Data that is submitted via the SWISSUbase platform are archived according to the OAIS standard.

Every published dataset is assigned a DOI so that it is citable in a scientific context. After data curation, your project metadata and datasets remain findable in the SWISSUbase catalogue for at least 10 years.

Before you publish data, please read the LaRS Policy and the Data preparation leaflet.

Data curation

The data curators assist you with entering your project and submitting your datasets. They check the metadata you entered for correctness and plausibility. They also perform random checks on the readability of the data.

The data curators decide on a case-by-case basis whether to make changes directly themselves or in consultation with you as the data depositor. In the latter case, you will receive a list with suggested changes.

Data processing and conversion

For data processing and conversion matters, LaRS works closely with LiRI (Linguistic Research Infrastructure). LiRI supports in:

  • creating datasets suitable for archiving
  • merging and anonymising data
  • converting data into archivable data formats
  • completing the required metadata

You can find further information at LiRI.

Consulting and support

LaRS advises you about the repository service by e-mail or in a Zoom/Teams session. Possible topics:

  • demo of SWISSUbase
  • choosing data formats for long-term preservation
  • entering metadata
  • choosing a suitable license or a suitable contract for your datasets

You can also find guides, documentations and the policy on SWISSUbase under Linguistics Resources.

Planned developments

LaRS is an infrastructure in development and will expand its service portfolio in the future. LaRS aims at the highest possible integration with emerging research infrastructures:

  • integration of catalogue metadata in the European linguistics research network CLARIN
  • integration via API (Application Programming Interface) for a seamless exchange with other research environments
  • Integration of metadata profiles describing linguistic resources that are not hosted on SWISSUbase
